The Accenture Triathlon Alert System (ATAS) was developed with athletes and fans in mind.

Using this free service, athletes can get the information they need after the race to help them measure their success. Fans can follow along as their favorite athlete competes in the race, receiving live alerts as the athlete progresses around the course and watching live finish-line Web cameras from the comfort of home. After the race, fans and participants have access to race results across all waves and age groups.

How Does the System Work?
Each athlete wears a small device on his/her ankle housing a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip. As the athlete completes the swim, bikes and runs, the system records where and when they were as they cross over various strategically placed mats on the course. At most courses, there are mats at the “Swim Exit,” the “Bike Out,” the “Bike In,” the “Run Out” and the finish line. At some races there will be more mats to capture more points along the course. The mats collect the data and, using cell phones embedded in them, trancher the data to the timing company and Accenture. It is then processed and used for the alerts and to post on the website. All of that happens in less then about four minutes.

Tips for Using the System:

Prior to the race:
If you would like to receive live updates during the race as an athlete makes his/her way around the course, sign up for ATAS. You can follow up to three athletes and get updates sent to a wide variety of devices such as a cell phone, a wireless PDA or e-mail. Our system will even place a computer-generated voice call to those who don’t have access to digital devices or the Internet.

If you are an athlete, you can have alerts sent to your family and friends as well, as you race.

You will need to register with the system to have alerts sent out. Registration closes at midnight prior to the race.

On race day:
On race day, you can use the system and this website to follow the race from start to finish. Watch a live streaming Web camera at the finish line or find out how ach athlete is doing in the race. The system will show you approximately where they are on the course and how well they are doing. At the end of the race, it will provide all the results and statistics you need.

After the race:
Within about 48 hours after the race is finished, the website will have video clips of every person that crossed the finish line. Athletes and fans alike can watch the video of any athlete they like and even download the video file to send to others. You can also post these materials on your personal website if you have one.
